Solyndra, the solar panel company whose highly publicized failure and consequent investigation by federal authorities has flashed across headlines recently, isn’t the only business to go belly up after benefiting from a piece of the $800 billion economic stimulus package passed in 2009.
At least four other companies have received stimulus funding only to later file for bankruptcy, and two of those were working on alternative energy.
Evergreen Solar Inc., indirectly received $5.3 million through a state grant to open a $450 million facility in 2007 that employed roughly 800 people. The company, once a rock star in the solar industry, filed for bankruptcy protection last month, saying it couldn’t compete with Chinese rivals without reorganizing. The company intends to focus on building up its manufacturing facility in China.

The real kick in the pants with these stories is that the “most transparent” administration in history is virtually ignoring this stuff, while scandals are popping up all over the place, and in the meanwhile, the DOJ wants to jail people for misstating their weight or hair color on the internet. Are you kidding me with this? This is the most disrespectful, America hating, over reaching, corrupt government in American history. Pathetic.

For sure. You know what else gripes me? I hate it when Republicans say things like “I’m sure Obama’s a nice guy, but…” No. He’s not a nice guy. A nice guy wouldn’t do the things he’s doing. A nice guy wouldn’t let the American people suffer, while he goes out playing golf and spending taxpayer money like there’s no tomorrow, passing up opportunities for Americans to find jobs….like this pipeline he refuses to approve. They’re talking 20,000 jobs to start! And he won’t sign it, because he’s afraid of losing votes from his environmentalist base. It disgusts me. We have a chance to put people back to work AND become less dependent on oil from the Middle East, and he’s only worried about re-election. No, he’s not a nice guy.
I’m on fire this morning…. You know we’re going to hit the $15 trillion mark today? $15 TRILLION in debt. Unbelievable. How does this man still have a 40+% approval rating????
My fiance has always been a Republican, but a very passive one. Well, not anymore. (He’s the one who actually encouraged me to start blogging.) Well, thanks to my endless rants about politics, he’s becoming much more engaged, and hopefully will be actively campaigning for a new president in 2012. I told him we were hitting the $15 trillion mark this morning, and he nearly flipped his lid. I love it!!!

We no longer have time on our side and the Silence of the Conservatives has been deafening. I hope they come alive soon and get involved in a much larger/louder way!
If I wasn’t such an optomist, I d be tempted to loss faith in We-the-People! The evidence continues to mount, and still there are those died-in-the-wool Democrats who refuse to accept the fact that the Party has left the people behind & no longer, if it ever did, reflects the wishes and reality of American life! Likewise, the Republican party seems unable or unwilling to snatch victory from the mouth of defeat – but rather chooses to shoot itself n the foot! VIVA THE TEA PARTY!!!!

Col. West is a bad ass! I hope he never gives in and becomes one of the good old boy RINO repubs. He can kick Barry Husseiin’s ass in an election and in the ring. As for the black panthers? Show up and try to mess with me or any of my buddies when we are trying to vote. Just because Barry and his AG protect them, does not mean they won’t get punched in the throat and sent home like the foul, bullies they are.

I think it is time for voters and folks at Tea Party Rallies to stand up and push back hard when threatened. I didn’t much care for seeing our Patriot friends getting pushed around and humiliated at the Rallies.
Thing is Sam, when we conservatives push back, we are labeled violent right wing terrorist, let the black panthers, or even the OWS folks do it, then they are expressing theiir constitutional rights, and thus patriots.
I was thinking about that my friend, but ya know something? They accuse us of all those things anyways so perhaps its time for us to push back and watch as those cowardly union/liberal thugs crawl back under their rocks. Our Founding Patriots were only pushed so far before they finally decided to stand up for themselves and kicked England’s arse back across the pond.

Being an outspoken Christian conservative, if I did not have a sense of humor, I would probably be looking to blow something up that is federally owned! If I had the time, I would like to do a stand up comedy routine. I would like to be known as the conservative white christian hillbilly version of “Chris Rock”!

House Approves Concealed Firearm Permit Bill
WASHINGTON – A state permit to carry a concealed firearm would be valid in almost every state in the country under legislation the House passed Wednesday.
The first pro-gun bill the House has taken up this year and the first since Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., was severely injured in a gun attack in January, it had the National Rifle Association’s backing and passed by a comfortable margin. The vote was 272-154, with only seven Republicans voting against it and 43 Democrats supporting it.
The Democratic-controlled Senate has no parallel bill. But two years ago, GOP Sens. John Thune of South Dakota and David Vitter of Louisiana nearly succeeded in attaching a similar measure to a larger bill.
Under the House legislation, people with a concealed carry permit in one state could carry a concealed weapon in every other state that gives people the right to carry concealed weapons.
While states have various standards for issuing such permits, currently only Illinois and the District of Columbia prohibit the concealed carrying of weapons.
“The Second Amendment is a fundamental right to bear arms that should not be constrained by state boundary lines,” said GOP Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
The bill’s chief co-sponsor, Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., said states should consider concealed carry permits no differently from driver’s licenses recognized by all states. He noted that many states already have reciprocity agreements with other states.
The legislation would “make it easier for law-abiding permit holders to know that they are simply in compliance with the law when they carry a firearm as they travel,” he said.
Democratic opponents said the bill would constitute a “race to the bottom,” with states that have strict requirements for issuing permits having to accept permits from states with far more lax standards.
“It’s a situation where weaker state laws become the national law,” said Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va. He noted that some states require training for permit holders, or deny permits to those under 21 or who sell drugs to minors, commit sex offenses or are involved in domestic violence.
According to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the measure would allow states with tough requirements, such as New York and California, “to allow in concealed carry gun-toting people from states, such as Florida, which repeatedly have given dangerous people licenses to carry.”
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., and Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., wrote President Barack Obama last week urging him to issue a veto threat against the bill. Passing the bill “would jeopardize public safety and would be an insult to states like New Jersey and New York that purposefully have strong gun ownership laws,” they wrote.
The administration has not yet taken an official position on the bill.
Democrats also chided Republicans for ignoring their dedication to states’ rights. “For the Republican House majority that supposedly believes in states’ rights, this bill is shocking,” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.
There hasn’t been much legislative action on firearms issues this year. A spending bill that the House is expected to vote on this week would bar the Justice Department from consolidating firearms sales records or maintaining information on people who have passed firearms background checks.
The chief sponsors of the concealed weapon measure, Stearns and Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C., said their proposal would not create a federal licensing system but merely require states to honor one another’s carry permits.
People who are unable to get a permit in their home state would not be able to carry a concealed weapon in their home state by getting a permit in another state. A state’s ban on carrying concealed weapons in places such as bars, sporting events or state parks would apply to nonresidents as well as residents.
Thirty-five states have “shall issue” permit laws that usually require states to issue permits to those who meet legal requirements. Ten others have “may issue” or discretionary permit laws. Vermont, Arizona, Alaska and Wyoming do not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
