Social programs in the United States

Social programs in the United States are welfare subsidies designed to aid the needs of the U.S. population. Proposals for federal programs began with Theodore Roosevelt‘s New Nationalism and expanded with Woodrow Wilson‘s New Freedom, Franklin D. Roosevelt‘s New Deal, John F. Kennedy‘s New Frontier, and Lyndon B. Johnson‘s Great Society.

The programs vary in eligibility requirements and are provided by various organizations on a federal, state, local and private level. They help to provide food, shelter, education, healthcare and money to U.S. citizens through primary and secondary education, subsidies of college education, unemployment disability insurance, subsidies for eligible low-wage workers, subsidies for housing, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, pensions for eligible persons and health insurance programs that cover public employees. The Social Security system is the largest and most prominent social aid program.[1][2] Medicare is another prominent program.

Not including Social Security and Medicare, Congress allocated almost $717 billion in Federal funds in 2010 plus $210 billion was allocated in state funds ($927 billion total) for means tested welfare programs in the United States—later (after 2010) expenditures are unknown but higher.[3] As of 2011, the public social spending-to-GDP ratio in the United States was below the OECD average.[4]

Total Social Security and Medicare expenditures in 2013 were $1.3 trillion, 8.4% of the $16.3 trillion GNP (2013) and 37% of the total Federal expenditure budget of $3.684 trillion.[5][6]

In addition to government expenditures private welfare spending in the United States is thought to be about 10% of the U.S. GDP or another $1.6 trillion.[7]

Social programs have been implemented to promote a variety of societal goals, including alleviating the effects of poverty on those earning or receiving low income or encountering serious medical problems, and ensuring retired people have a basic standard of living.

Unlike in Europe, Christian democratic and social democratic theories have not played a major role in shaping welfare policy in the United States.[9] Entitlement programs in the U.S. were virtually non-existent until the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New Deal programs in response to the Great Depression. Between 1932 and 1981, modern American liberalism dominated U.S. economic policy and the entitlements grew along with American middle class wealth.[10]

Eligibility for welfare benefits depends on a variety of factors, including gross and net income, family size, pregnancy, homelessness, unemployment, and serious medical conditions like blindness, kidney failure or AIDS.

Although Social Security is listed as a Socialistic Government Program I submit that by us paying into this program and heavily that it might be a stretch to say that it is entirely Socialistic in nature.

It would seem, according to Wikipedia that we are in fact a Socialist State. Although many may tend to disagree with those findings the fact remains that we have over the past 100 years or so become a government dependent country.

Perhaps Winston Churchill said it best:

What greater Blessing could anyone ask for than to be Born Free in the Greatest Nation the world has ever known?

We are Americans and living in the land of the Free and the Home of the Brave and yet there are those among us who would destroy all that America stands for.

I have to ask, how can any native born American desire to destroy all that has been fought for by those who have gone before us for the sake of an ideology of liberal socialism that has been proven to fail worldwide?

Sadly, most Americans aren’t paying attention to the perils we face as a Free People.

Sadly, most Americans are preoccupied with the everyday cares of life and leisure while others are sounding the alarm of eminent destruction.

Americans have not been this divided on the future course of this Country since the Civil War.

Some would say we are heading for a Second American Revolution

Those Wacko Gun Control Activists are at it again!

486114_600661426628077_925954504_n

It is common knowledge that the last two attempts at mass murder were committed using Shot Guns (most likely on the advice of Joe Biden) instead of the Semi-Automatic AR15 or AK47 large capacity clip weapons used in the past.  The gun control advocates have labeled these weapons as ‘Assault Rifles’ but just so you know, they are not.

Our government has classified an ‘Assault Rifle‘ as one that fires in ‘Fully Automatic‘ mode similar to a Machine Gun.

Well, just when you think you’ve heard it all, Fox News comes up with this latest report!

Gun control advocates vow to take fight into 2014 elections, spend millions

Gun control advocates acknowledged Sunday that they were disappointed with efforts this year to tighten firearm laws across the country but vowed to continue their fight, including spending millions on their candidates in next year’s elections.

Their comments came one year after the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre in which 20 students and six adults were fatally shot in Newtown, Conn. However, Congress failed to pass no major gun-control legislation in the aftermath.

“We get disappointed,” said Mark Kelly, who co-founded the gun-control group Americans for Responsible Solutions with wife Gabrielle Giffords, the former congresswoman who was shot on the campaign trail in 2011.

The retired astronaut and Navy captain told “Fox News Sunday” the defeat of the so-called, bipartisan Manchin-Toomey Senate gun bill was “not a good day” but that his group plans to spend $25 million in the next election cycle.

Though the focus of America’s gun debate appears to be shifting from weapons bans to keeping firearms away from criminals and the mentally ill, gun-rights advocates seem steadfast in their efforts to limit background checks and repeal laws that prevent people from defending themselves against attackers.

“There’s no victory until we get guns in school and elsewhere to protect ourselves,” Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, told Fox News. “The legislation that is on the books is lethal … and we simply have to get rid of them.”

Kelly said that anti-gun groups were able to spend about as much as pro-gun groups in the recent Virginia gubernatorial race in which Democrat Terry McAuliffe defeated Republican Ken Cuccinelli — a sign that the balance of power is shifting after his side got outspent in the Capitol Hill gun debates.

Carlee Soto, whose sister was killed in the Dec. 14, 2012, attack at Sandy Hook elementary, in Newtown, Conn., also acknowledged the effort to tighten gun laws has been difficult, but she remains optimistic.

“Some days I don’t want to speak in front of the camera … but my sister can’t do that,” she told Fox News. “I believe we will have sensible gun laws in the future.”

Have the lies caught up with Obama?

1462991_622421721151294_1909538856_n

Yep, Obama said that…
It appears so as the media finally begins to take him to task on the many issues he has lied about.  Could this be the beginning of the end for the Obama Administration and the Democrats come the Mid Term Elections next November?  One can only hope as more and more Americans begin to see the deceitfulness of the President.

Promises are only as good as the people that make them.
The integrity of the individual making the promise is essential as to whether they are trustworthy or not.
This president has proven that he is not.
He is a liar, a fraud, a charlatan.
The American People have erred in allowing this administration to continue in the destruction of this Country and it will continue until enough Americans realize that we have made a mistake.
The admission of a mistake made may be hard for some people to admit.
Too bad,…time to suck it up and fix the problem before it gets out of control.
This president has to survive for another 3 years.
That’s an eternity considering the power of the internet.
There will be a full court press prior to the 2014 elections orchestrated by the administration in order to divert attention away from the egregious offenses that are occurring on a day to day basis against the dictates of the Constitution of the United States of America.

2014 is a critical year for our Nation.
It will be a sad day when this Nation does not stand up against the ensuing tyranny on the horizon and speak as one saying,… we have had enough.
This is not what we are.
We are above a tin pot tyrant.
We have proved it before, and we will prove it again.

White House Vowing to Make Good on Transparency Pledge, Critics Aren’t Buying It

In the middle of showdowns with the press and open government groups, the White House on Friday issued a report praising the administration’s efforts to promote more transparency.

White House Vowing to Make Good on Transparency Pledge, Critics Arent Buying It

The White House released its second U.S. Open Government National Action Plan, a 14-page report with 23 new and expanded open government proposals, inclduing changes to the White House online petition, modernizing compliance to the Freedom of Information Act and pushing an international agreement to promote transparency abroad.

However critics, such as Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, have cited that the administration has been resistant to producing information to the public.

“This administration has been less transparent than the Bush administration and they are getting more secretive as time goes on,” Fitton, the chief of the conservative government watchdog group, told TheBlaze. “There are entire categories of information walled off from the public that George W. Bush would never dream of blocking because he would have never gotten away with it.”

A report completed by former Washington Post editor Leonard Downie for the non-partisan Committee to Protect Journalists in October said the Obama administration is the most secretive since the Nixon administration, and has chilled journalists coverage by retaliation against government leakers.

Still the White House is “setting a series of ambitious goals to create a more open government. The United States has continued to implement and improve upon the open-government commitments set forth in the first plan, along with many more efforts underway across government, including implementing individual Federal agency Open Government Plans,” said a White House blog post by Nick Sinai, the U.S. Deputy Chief Technology Officer, and Gayle Smith, White House senior director for development and democracy.

The report said the “We the People” petition website will be improved to make it easier to collect and submit signatures, the White House report states.

The U.S. is also a part of the Global Initiatives on Fiscal Transparency (GIFT), which is an international network of governments and non-government organizations that aims at increasing financial transparency for taxpayers and shareholders. The administration also plans to improve the Data.gov website to make government documents more available to the public.

The report calls for “modernization” of FOIA by “launching a consolidated online FOIA service to improve customers’ experience, creating and making training resources available to FOIA professionals and other federal employees, and developing common FOIA standards for agencies across government.”

But the administration has not complied to FOIA requests from Judicial Watch, pushing the organization to sue the government more than 120 times during the Obama administration, more than twice as many lawsuits as it filed during the Bush and Clinton years, Fitton told TheBlaze. The shielded information has included things such as information on the Benghazi terrorist attack, and the government assistance to mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

“They have politicized FOIA as they have everything else,” Fitton said.

Fitton compared this to Obama’s promises on policy.

“The idea that transparency would be the cornerstone of his presidency is the same as saying if you like your health insurance you can keep it,” Fitton said. “A lying president necessarily isn’t a transparent president.”

The Obama Justice Department has been criticized since May for labeling Fox News reporter James Rosen a “co-conspirator” in a leak investigation and for obtaining phone records from Associated Press journalists.

More recently, the White House Correspondents Association protested the White House blocking news photographers from the type of events that previous administrations have allowed the photojournalists to cover.

The White House has also been criticized for scheduling meetings with lobbyists off White House grounds to avoid having the lobbyists’ names on the visitor logs.

Additionally, former Environmental Protection Agency Lisa Jackson used an e-mail under a different name, for what some have said charged was to avoid releasing communications through FOIA.

Nevertheless, the White House asserts that the public’s right to know what there government is doing is a priority.

“Since his first full day in office, President Obama has prioritized making government more open and accountable and has taken substantial steps to increase citizen participation, collaboration, and transparency in government,” said Sinai and Smith on the White House blog.

Should ObamaCare Queen Kathleen Sebelius Resign?

131018174011-obamacare-error-message-620xaHat tip to Fox News for this report…

Sebelius says she doesn’t ‘work for’ those calling for her resignation

SebeliusPhoenix

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is rebuffing calls from Republicans for her to resign over the troubled launch of the ObamaCare sign-up website, saying those asking her to resign are “people I don’t work for.”

Sebelius gave the comments on a tour Thursday of an ObamaCare call center in Phoenix, which kicks off a multi-city tour by administration officials to promote the health care law amid the website’s troubles.

Sebelius said “no one is getting fired” over the litches and that her main focus is to get the website up and running.

“The majority of people calling for me to resign I would say are people who I don’t work for, and who do not want this program to work in the first place,” she said. “I have had frequent conversations with the president and I’ve committed to him that my role is to get the program up and running and we will do just that.”

Sebelius’ comments come after Rep. John Fleming, R-La., sent a letter to President Obama signed by 33 Republican members of Congress calling for Sebelius’ resignation over the troubled health care law roll out.

“It’s clear that Secretary Sebelius has mismanaged the ObamaCare roll out and is in over her head. Before the train wreck is allowed to continue… before more taxpayer dollars are spent trying to fix what’s already wrong… and before the Secretary continues on her damage control tour, it’s time for the president to admit that, despite three-and-a-half years to prepare, his HHS Secretary has dropped the ball on this and needs to step down,” the letter reads.

Also Thursday, the contractors who built the health care website defended their work at a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and claimed the government failed to properly test the system before launch.

CGI Federal and the other contractors repeatedly claimed that overall “end-to-end” testing was the responsibility of an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, as was the decision to go live on Oct. 1. They suggested more time was needed to work out the kinks.

Sebelius came under fire after telling the House Energy and Commerce Committee she was not also available to testify Thursday due to a “scheduling conflict,” but then travelling to Phoenix.

Sebelius was already taking heat for snubbing the committee while planning to attend a health care gala in Boston on Wednesday night.

It’s unclear whether Sebelius’ “scheduling conflict” was the gala, the Phoenix event or neither.

The committee says Sebelius is now expected to testify next Wednesday on the health care law.

A Bad Moon has Risen over America

wallpaper_25311

Hat tip to The Orthosphere

As traditionalist conservatives, we understand that the current order, although it contains pockets of relative sanity, is, overall, hopelessly corrupt. Although we knew the chances were not good, many of us had been hoping that a renewal of American society could somehow be brought about. We knew that the old America—the predominantly white, Christian America of ordered liberty under God and the Constitution—was in some senses gone. But while the permanent loss of America was seen as possible, even likely, it was not foremost in our minds. We generally focused on what could be done to oppose liberalism.

That has changed. While the recent presidential election did not change anything fundamental (elections cannot do that), it did reveal that even a President who obviously hates and opposes the traditional American way of life can easily be reelected. It revealed that a president who is incompetent at doing what he should, and very competent at pursuing leftist-inspired destruction, can gain the votes of the majority. It revealed anew that in the new America the enemies of a decent order have all the advantages. Barring a miracle, we cannot see how it will be possible to revive a properly-ordered (or at least adequately-ordered) American nation from sea to shining sea.

This insight did not just come from the recent election. Nearly a year ago, for example, Lawrence Auster announced that he no longer believed it possible for America to reject liberalism, and that, in his words, “…liberalism will continue until it has destroyed our civilization, and liberalism itself, having been deprived of its host, will also perish…” This conclusion was not the result of any specific event, but was rather an intuitive insight based on cumulative data.

What to Do?

It is a dreadful thing to contemplate the loss of one’s nation. An appropriate first response is mourning.

After mourning should come repentance. Part of repentance is to change our understanding of what must be done. Man naturally wants to preserve what is best about his nation, and conservatives, almost by definition, wish to defend their nation from internal (and external) enemies. It is natural for a conservative, traditionalist or otherwise, to view his task as preserving or renewing his nation.

But if this is no longer possible, what’s a conservative to do?

The Moral Majority has lost the High Ground and America has become a Liberal Prison

64227_10151541833071069_678362571_n

Here is a comment from another post in which

The Bard of the American Redoubt

makes a most disturbing statement.

Could this be true?

I come from the side that believes the hour is late. The gray state is being implemented. Citizens are disappearing, being gunned down and murdered. The FedGov has gone much further than “poking the tiger.” I don’t think these sociopaths can be reasoned with.

This reminds me of a bully and a guy in the park. The guy says “don’t touch me” The bully pokes him. The guy says, look I am backing up here, don’t come over this line, the bully crosses the line. The guy says, I am over here, WAY over here, standing under this tree, man if you keep messing with me I, I, I… I am going to do something. The bully laughs at him and continues one. The cowardice of all of us, myself included is disgusting. Basically we may not deserve liberty and freedom.

If you still think you can work this out with “normal politics” you are part of the problem.

And yea, I agree with Bill O’Reilly sometimes and not. That is ok, all thinking men will disagree at times. I will say Bill O’Reilly who gets his living from Outrage Porn doesn’t really want this system to come “unglued.” That would cost him.

The bully not only has poked you, he has bitch-slapped your wife, knocked your children’s teeth out and taken all of your money. So … what are you going to do about it? If you care, more here: http://wp.me/p2Qno5-175

In another comment we read this:

I hope what you are trying to do works. I really, really do. However to me you are like Jews trying to make nice in Germany in 1930 or so. If you think you can answer what is happening with “more faxes and voting on their electronic machines” or you don’t realize there is no longer a moral majority, taxpaying God-fearing men are now a permanent minority. Welcome to it. You don’t get that K-street pays both sides, Geb Bush or Hilary Clinton, doesn’t really matter now does it? NSA shut down? socialist state significantly reversed? There are more people who want free stuff, then tax payers. Thus who are you trying to convince to vote their free stuff way? You really think holding signs will get people to want to “work hard, and stop living off of others?” Then as I said “you are now part of the problem. A distraction (like porn) from what we must all be willing to do. From reality.” Please never say “…I didn’t see this coming…” Here is a line by Anna Barnhardt.

“You people had better man up and do something real and concrete to depose these neo-Stalinist psychopaths. Mere talk and hand-wringing leads straight to mass graves.”

http://www.barnhardt.biz/2013/10/11/history-rhymes-obamacare-website-and-the-ukrainian-wheat-farmers/

Good luck in all you do fighting for freedom.

I for one see some real merit in the comments from the

Bard of American Redoubt

and though I may not agree with all of it I certainly did have to sit up and take notice.

America’s Most Communist States: California and New York

374535_612496562098626_167415252_n

Hat tip to Fox News for this report

New York and California have for generations of Americans been considered destination spots to express personal freedoms — one with a city big enough for anybody with a dream to perhaps become a star and the other a state synonymous with the so-called laid-back lifestyle.

But such attitudes have drastically changed, according to a new study that finds the two states last in individual freedom.

The “Freedom in the 50 States” study published last week by the libertarian-leaning Mercatus Center ranks New York last and California second to last.

The survey is based on fiscal issues such as job prospects and tax rates, regulatory policies that include property rights and personal freedoms such as gun laws.

“When it comes to overall freedom, New York ranks dead last,” the study’s authors said.

They point out that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has taken away – or at least tried to take away – several personal freedoms, including his failed effort to outlaw the sale of sodas 16 ounces and larger.

“Though the law ran into a judicial buzz saw on the eve of its enactment earlier this month, it demonstrates the attitude city and state legislators have toward their constituents,” the authors noted.

Bloomberg has already imposed a stiff tax on cigarette sales and is a leading advocate for tougher gun laws.

In addition, New Yorkers pay a state income tax of 14 percent.

“Even New Yorkers who don’t care about sweet drinks have to deal with the highest state and local tax burden in the country,” the authors wrote.

The result is New Yorkers are voting with their feet, with roughly 1.7 million leaving between 2000 and 2010, though newborns and new immigrants are keeping the state’s population steady, according to the study.

“We’re not living in a police state,” White Plains attorney John Murtagh told CBS New York. “But the economics of New York clearly don’t work. And then you see things like Mike Bloomberg and his Big Gulp sodas.”

The top five states with the most freedom are North  Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Oklahoma, according to the study from the center, at George Mason University in Virginia.

North Dakota came in first in large part based of its “very low taxes” and government debt, the authors said. “However, its spending is uncharacteristically high.”

The three other lowest ranking states are Rhode Island, Hawaii and New Jersey, in descending order.

The study authors said California’s biggest problem is business regulation, though a recent attempt to impose a higher tax rate on the state’s highest earners has become a major complaint among residents.

“The Golden State, with hundreds of miles of picturesque Pacific coastline, nonetheless managed to drive off a net of 1.5 million residents between 2000 and 2010 — over  4 percent of its 2000 population,” the authors wrote.

They also pointed out Californians‘ personal income contracted by 0.4 percent a year in the seven years before the Great Recession struck, a record worse than any other state besides Michigan.

This didn’t happen over night America.  It began a few generations ago to an unsuspecting America lead by a Progressive Liberal President, Woodrow Wilson.  Ever so subtle did they (Communists) slip into the American physic all the while undermining the very fabric of American Culture and Society.  Then came the Great American Depression which caused even more Americans to accept the Socialism presented to them by a President Franklyn Roosevelt.  Today we face an even greater economic calamity causing over 51% of the American people to re-elect one Barack Obama and his entire Socialist/Marxist Agenda.

That’s it in a nut shell but the difference this time around is we have History on our side and have learned from those mistakes of the past.  We will not repeat them and even now there are people rising up in our Congress who are Constitutional Patriots determined to restore these United States to their former glory. It is up to all of us not to let them down.  Stand Strong Patriots and Speak out for this may well be the Twilight’s Last Gleaming.
