From Wikipedia:

The decline of the Roman Empire refers to the gradual societal collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Many theories of causality prevail, but most concern the disintegration of political, economic, military, and other social institutions, in tandem with foreign invasions and usurpers from within the empire. The English historian Edward Gibbon, author of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (1776) made this concept part of the framework of the English language, but he was not the first to speculate on why and when the Empire collapsed. “From the eighteenth century onward,” Glen W. Bowersock has remarked,[1] “we have been obsessed with the fall: it has been valued as an archetype for every perceived decline, and, hence, as a symbol for our own fears.” It remains one of the greatest historical questions, and has a tradition rich in scholarly interest. In 1984, German professor Alexander Demandt published a collection of 210 theories on why Rome fell, and new theories have emerged since then.[2][3]

This slow decline occurred over a period of four centuries, culminating on September 4, 476, when Romulus Augustus, the last Emperor of the Western Roman Empire, was deposed by Odoacer, a Germanic chieftain. Some modern historians question the significance of this date,[4] and not simply because Julius Nepos, the legitimate emperor recognized by the East Roman Empire, continued to live in Salona, Dalmatia, until he was assassinated in 480. The Ostrogoths who succeeded considered themselves upholders of the direct line of Roman traditions. The Eastern Roman Empire was going from strength to strength and continued until the Fall of Constantinople on May 29, 1453.

Many events throughout the empire’s history are considered to have worsened the empire’s so-called “decline”. The Battle of Adrianople in 378, the death of Theodosius I in 395 (the last time the Roman Empire was politically unified), the crossing of the Rhine in 406 by Germanic tribes, the execution of Stilicho in 408, the sack of Rome in 410, the death of Constantius III in 421, the death of Aetius in 454, the second sack of Rome in 455, and the death of Majorian in 461 are all macrohistorical events concerning the decline of the Western Roman Empire.

Obama’s Latest Land Grab

Obama designates national monument in LA area

SAN DIMAS, California (AP) – President Barack Obama on Friday spared from future development nearly 350,000 acres of land within the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los Angeles, a move that cheered environmentalists but sparked new criticism of Obama’s willingness to use his executive authority.

Obama used his authority under the federal Antiquities Act to turn the area into a national monument. He cited President Abraham Lincoln’s decision to preserve parts of the Yosemite Valley without ever having seen it as inspiration for steps he’s taken in office to preserve more than 3 million acres of public lands.

“And I’m not finished,” Obama said, making the announcement at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, where picturesque views of the San Gabriel Mountains under blue sky provided the backdrop. “We are looking at additional opportunities to preserve federal lands and waters, and I’ll continue to do so, especially where communities are speaking up.”

Supporters say Obama’s move will provide recreational opportunities for millions of people, particularly minorities and children, who live in Los Angeles County. The county is one of the most disadvantaged areas in terms of access to open space, according to the White House.

“For Angelenos, the San Gabriels are like having Yellowstone next door,” said Frances Beinecke, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council. “Now the 17 million people living in Greater Los Angeles can find wild beauty right in their backyards.”

Local officials and some lawmakers faulted Obama for acting without support from Congress or the public, but Obama said officials heard from a lot of urban families who said this area constituted their only outdoor space and that their children didn’t have parks.

Officials also expressed concerns about potential use restrictions on the hundreds of thousands of acres that will be forever preserved.

“Once again this administration is taking unilateral action without congressional or public input,” said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. “I strongly support multiple use of our national forests and other public lands, but this decision severely limits usage.”

Since taking office, Obama has created or expanded 13 national monuments across the country, including Friday’s action.

Just last month, he created the world’s largest marine preserve by expanding the Pacific Remote Islands Marine National Monument in the south-central Pacific Ocean.

Obama has designated nearly three times more land and water than any other president since Congress first passed the Antiquities Act in 1906, according to the White House.

Social Justice is NOT

“We the People”
Expound the Truth and Speak with a Loud Voice

This current Administration and Socialist Government really don’t like when we stand up and speak Out exposing their Evil Deeds.

I can remember a time in America when we had all Polish, all Irish, all Italian, and people of all Nationalities, Races and Religions living in neighborhoods of their own choosing.

Folks, this Country is a melting pot of many nationalities, races, and Religions.

Is it no wonder that some tend to keep to themselves and that some choose to not associate with others while others mix freely.

Is that not what Freedom means

Find me one Country on planet earth where there are different races, nationalities and Religions that don’t always care to associate with one another.

Why is that so wrong?

It happens within our own Families and Circles of Friends

Social Justice, Social Reform and POLITICAL CORRECTNESS have been and are really nothing more than a Socialist Agenda of controlling and herding people into a molded pattern all in trying to take away our individuality.

We are a Free Society and if someone don’t like me for who I am or what I stand for well that’s ok with me.

I don’t expect everyone to like me or agree with me all the time in this life.

So what am I saying?

I am saying that people will pick whom they like and dislike and nothing is ever going to change that.

Silencing people will never change how or what they feel

All men / women are Created Equal.
It stops there!

What a person does with his or her life determines just how equal we are.

That applies to Race, Ethnic background, Religion, and Gender.

America is messed up these days because folks who clearly are not equal are given positions of importance based on their Heritage rather than their Qualifications.

Affirmative Action weakened American industry by virtue of unqualified people being placed in positions of power and decision-making.

This is the land of Opportunity for anyone who is willing to ” work ” for it.

It is not the land of Opportunity for people who demand it by virtue of their heritage.

That’s just wrong.

So now I guess that makes me a Bigot, Racist and a Religious Extremest don’t it?

In my view, it makes me a Free Thinking American who will never succumb to a Socialist Agenda of controlling and herding people into a molded pattern all in trying to take away our individuality.
Is it any wonder why the Socialist Liberals in America refer to us as:

Those so-called astro-turfing redneck illiterate racist tea-bagging racist selfish gun-toting racist bible-carrying small-minded terrorist Jihadist-hating anti-communism torture-loving townhall-ranting non-existent 912 DC rallying racist tobacco chewing carbon-dioxide spewing racist confederate-nazi troglodytes and neanderthals? Did I mention racist?

Obama is no Ordinary Weakling

10320260_761009920625806_4623885176352285291_n

Obama is no ordinary weakling

Those who compare the bare-chested conqueror of the Crimea with the metro-sexual ruler of the United States and find our emperor weak to the point of deserving ridicule miss the essential strength of President Obama.

It’s no ordinary weakling who can turn a once-respected country into an international joke; reduce Congress to a gaggle of sniveling sycophants; turn the world’s finest medical system into a failed third-rate socialist nightmare with a stroke of his pen; shatter our Constitution without attempted recourse by the sons and daughters of frontiersmen and pioneers whose blood was used to write that inspired document; and turn the people of our once-united states into a herd of competing minorities who, like suckling pigs, are each afraid to lose his place on the government teat should he raise his voice to protest the ruin of our country.

So don’t denigrate the nonentity ruler who has overcome his uncertain ancestry and ludicrous incompetence to do what no other king or dictator has been able to do in our 237-year history: He has destroyed America.

Middle East Crisis – Border Crisis – Ukraine Crisis and Obama’s Fundraising Trips

the-amateurHat tip to Fox News for this Report

President Obama began his three-day West Coast fundraising tour in Seattle with an admission that mushrooming global crises were adding anxiety to an American public already concerned about the economy.

“Part of people’s concern is just the sense that around the world the old order isn’t holding and we’re not quite yet where we need to be based on the new order,” said Obama, who later cautioned against letting those anxieties lead to cynicism and a lack of interest in democracy.

“People who really need government to work for them on their behalf, they withdraw, they opt out, and that makes government even more dysfunctional,” he said.

The president already has taken heat for making time for a burger stop and fundraisers last week shortly after Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was downed over Ukraine, killing hundreds. While the president repeatedly has addressed the tragedy in public, he also spent his Sunday playing golf at Fort Belvoir.

Later Tuesday, Obama will attend a Democratic Party fundraiser in Seattle, before catching Air Force One to San Francisco. He’ll end the three-day swing later this week in Los Angeles.

The White House has defended the president’s busy political schedule, which the president’s team largely has not changed in response to world events.

Obamax-large“What the president is looking at and what his team is looking at is, does he have what he needs to do his job?”

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters on Monday, in response to questions about the president’s fundraising.

Asked about Obama’s fundraising last week in New York, Earnest said it was not a mistake and noted that the president made calls to the leaders of Ukraine and Malaysia amid the Flight 17 tragedy.

“When the president travels, he travels with an array of staff and advisers and communications equipment that allows him to do his job from wherever he happens to be,” Earnest said. “And if it becomes clear that there’s a need for him to come back to the White House in order to fulfill those functions, then we’ll make a change in his schedule. Right now, it’s not apparent that that’s the case.”

But Republican critics have questioned the president’s stay-the-course strategy on fundraisers.

In response to the White House defense of its own itinerary, the Republican National Committee tweeted: “The White House still feels Obama’s choice of burgers & fundraisers over responding to crises was the right one.”

Aside from the Malaysia Airlines tragedy and deliberations over how to respond to the suspected Russian connection, the administration continues to grapple with the surge of illegal immigrant minors along the U.S.-Texas border, and with the mounting death toll in the war between Israelis and Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

mm

After Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced the deployment of National Guard personnel to the border in his state to deal with the surge, Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, ribbed the president for his schedule.

“The fact is if the president weren’t so busy playing golf or pool, he would know the integration has been happening,” Gohmert told Fox News, referring to collaboration along the border between various Border Patrol and security officials.

Obama did abandon one idea for the trip, however. The White House had been in touch with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel about a presidential appearance on his show during the stop in Los Angeles, but is not going forward.

“We elected not to do it this time, but hope we can arrange to do it in the near future,” a White House official said.

But on the fundraising trail, Obama remains a potent draw among the Democratic Party’s wealthy donors, who pay up to $32,400 to be in intimate settings with the president.

The fundraising highlight of the trip will be a Democratic National Committee event Wednesday at the Beverly Hills home of Shonda Rhimes, the producer of the ABC series “Scandal,” a drama set in modern-day Washington. Kerry Washington, who plays the lead role in the show, is among the hosts.

So far this 2013-14 election cycle, Obama has attended 73 fundraising events for Democratic Party groups. During the 2009-10 midterm cycle, when Republicans won control of the House, Obama attended 98 fundraisers, according to CBS News White House reporter Mark Knoller, who keeps detailed records of presidential travels and events.

Obama has outpaced his predecessor in fundraising, having attended 395 fundraisers during his presidency as of this week. According to Knoller’s statistics, then-President George W. Bush had attended 217 at the same point in his second term.

The 395 is more than Bush attended during his entire presidency.

1940017_791758964186399_1426092954_n

Obama has devoted much of his effort to the Democratic National Committee, which last month raised $9 million and cut its debt to $3 million from a one-time high of $23 million. Obama also will raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the political arm of the party that assists Democratic House incumbents and candidates.

While the House is expected to remain in Republican hands after the election, the fate of the Democratic-controlled Senate is much more in question, raising the stakes for fundraising.

Obama has at least one bit of policy-driven business set aside for the trip. In Los Angeles on Thursday he plans to go to a community college to draw attention to jobs training, particularly for work requiring specialized skills, like health care.

What does it mean to be an American?

200-american-voices-flagHat tip to The Western Center for Journalism by Larry Craig

We have heard a lot about people entering our country for the sole purpose of having their children born here so that they become citizens of our country. And we call our citizens Americans. But what is America, and what is an American? Is it just a person born here? And is America (I know, the United States of America) just the name of a geographical territory in the Western Hemisphere.

To say simply that an American is whoever is born here or who has taken an oath of citizenship is like saying that the Bible or a contract is just ink markings on paper. It is true that a Bible is ink markings on paper, but it is not just that. And if America is just the sum total of those people we call citizens, then we have deconstructed or dumbed-down our ideals to make them irrelevant, undesirable, or even inappropriate.

If we don’t have an idea of what we are supposed to be like as a nation (if anything), then we have no way to evaluate how we are doing. You can’t fix something if you have no way of knowing if it is broken or what is broke. You can’t have a garden without knowing what the weeds are and what the plants are that you intentionally want to cultivate.

And you don’t create a new nation, like ours was created, without having a clear idea of what you want it to be. If we don’t know what we want to be as a nation, it’s like we are sitting in a rowboat without oars, going wherever the current and the waves push us. Like a ship without a rudder, it has no destination or goal. As long as it doesn’t sink, everything is alright.

Some people focus on the idea that we are a nation of immigrants, that America is not based on a particular ethnicity. When you say you have to be Japanese to be Japanese, you are not making a tautological statement. But you can be Japanese and still be an American.

We used to call it the melting pot, where all these different nationalities combine to form a new nationality, an American. But now we talk of the salad bowl, where each individual part of the mix retains its individual identity. There is no longer considered to be a distinctly American culture, certainly not one to be retained. Every culture is equally good; but if there is no actual American culture, then we become a mixture of all the other nations.

Is that so bad? If that’s so good, they could have stayed where they were, and we could have stayed the way we were. If the way we were was so bad, they wouldn’t have come here. If we become like the countries they came from, then we are not as great as we used to be.

If we don’t know why we are great or how we got that way, we will not know when we are losing that greatness, why, and how we can get it back.

Wait. Why do I keep referring to our country as great?

In this context, the most relevant fact is that no other country in the world has so many people who want to come here, and no other country in the world allows so many other people to do so. I am not talking about the millions of people who just want to leave their own countries because of war, famine, corruption, or persecution, though many of them do see America as the place to go to. But if this country changes to become like all the countries these people have come from, then we lose what was so distinct, or great, that made them want to come here in the first place.

And two of those distinctions are freedom and prosperity, and we will look shortly how we are in jeopardy of losing both.

If you are making a generic salad, you can add a lot of different ingredients to add to the flavor. But this doesn’t work for everything. If you are making a milk shake, and everybody adds any ingredient they like (maybe one person adds hot sauce and another vegetable juice), you don’t end up with a milk shake. You end up with something that no one wants to drink. Recipes exist for a reason. Only certain ingredients in certain proportions make the best tasting dishes.

When our country was founded, it was peopled from six different European nations: England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Holland, and Germany. Eventually, as people from other nations wanted to come here, immigration laws aimed to retain the existing ethnic composition of our country.

In 1965, at least partially as a result of the new civil rights laws, immigration was opened to all nations. While this may sound noble at first, it forces the question: what is an American? Is it just whoever happens to live here legally or permanently? What do we teach our children or the new immigrants about what America is?

We talk about American ideals: freedom of speech and freedom of religion. But many of these new residents don’t believe in these. And many of the old ones are starting to not believe in them either.

Freedom of speech involves the exchange of ideas, the right to disagree with each other, and the right to express that disagreement. But we now have political correctness and hate speech laws which seek to stifle all speech that disagrees with the current mantra.

Where the old command was to love your neighbor, the new rule is to not offend your neighbor. And you can never be too sure what will do it. You can otherwise ignore him, but just don’t offend him. Don’t say anything or do anything that he might not like.
